Purple Leaf Eastern Redbud known botanically as Cercis Canadensis ‘Merlot’ is known for its vibrant, purple leaves that are present from Spring to Summer. Like it’s relative the standard Eastern Redbud, it’s one of the first trees to bloom each year.
It can thrive in most parts of the U.S. as far west as California, throughout the East and even up North. It’s hardy down to -20 degrees and resists ice damage with ease. It’s adaptable to most soil types and fits well into small gardens.
